Renesas Electronics RA8M2 Microcontrollers
Renesas Electronics RA8M2 Microcontrollers feature the Arm® Cortex®-M85 and -M33 cores, delivering a breakthrough performance of up to 7300 Coremark, and fully deterministic, low-latency, real-time operation that meets the most demanding application requirements. The RA8M2 are ultra-high-performance, general-purpose, and graphics MCUs as part of the 2nd generation of the RA8 Series. The RA8M2 is based on the 22nmULL process and increases performance by a magnitude of 1GHz on the CM85 core and 250MHz on the CM33 core.
The Renesas RA8M2 Microcontrollers include single and dual core options, and a specialized feature set to address the requirements of a broad base of compute-intensive applications. The MCUs incorporate embedded MRAM, which offers several advantages over Flash technology, including high endurance and data retention, faster writes, no erase required, and byte addressability with lower leakage and manufacturing costs.
The RA8M2 integrates graphics peripherals such as a high-resolution graphics LCD controller with parallel RGB and MIPI DSI interfaces and a 2D graphics drawing engine. The highly integrated MCUs feature large memory and flexible external memory interfaces, enabling high-performance graphics applications. 16-bit parallel and MIPI CSI-2 camera interfaces are enclosed for acquiring image and video data from camera sensors. PDM and SSI interfaces enable audio and voice AI applications. Several connectivity features, such as Gigabit Ethernet, TSN Switch, Octal SPI, USB, and CAN-FD interfaces, are available for communication.
The devices are supplied in large 176-pin LQFP, 224-pin, and 289-pin BGA packages, supplying users with ample I/O for real-time control needs. The RA8M2 is distinguished by advanced security features, including TrustZone®, secure boot, immutable storage, and tamper protection.
